"Put your ear down close to your soul and listen hard." - Anne Sexton
In 2014, shortly after my eldest daughter was born, I began to experiment with sun printing. Greta would snuggle up in the wrap and we'd go on nature walks, collecting wild flowers and weeds along the way. Later we'd press the botanicals and today she's old enough to help me print. But in that time in between, I'd amassed yards of printed fabric with no real plan. Sure, I was pursuing creative work but the object was sitting, collecting dust. After my second daughter was born in 2016, I decided to make bonnets for my two girls. Then I made bonnets for some of their friends. Then I made bonnets for imaginary kiddos, I guess, because I just could not stop making these bonnets. And that's the thing about creative work, about making art, right? When you find something that speaks to your soul a little bit, you cannot so easily give it up.
So if you've purchased a bonnet to put on the head of a child you love, or a bandana to wrap around your neck, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
